Senior J2EE System Developer at LMRA; Co-Founder, Creative Director at Skyrill Design Studios
Bahrain
From morning till afternoon, I work as a System Developer on one of the government's most ambitious projects ever: to transform the labor market in Bahrain by implementing the recommendations of the McKinsey Report. A major component of the project is the Expat Management System that codifies the business processes of 13 government institutions and allows for their seamless integration via a Web-based system.
From afternoon till midnight, I work as a developer, designer, video editor/videographer and photographer on a string of hobbyist, social and professional projects, as a freelancer at first for the latter, but as of April 2009, as part of a registered company called Skyrill Design Studios.
Whenever there is any free time, I write short stories, poetry, essays and collections in both English and Arabic.

From the launch post: "We’re very excited to officially announce the launch of Skyrill Design Studios! We’ve got some exciting ideas that we will be rolling out in the coming few months and we’re already very pumped-up about the projects that we’ll be starting on soon.
We’re intent on being systematic in our management and development of projects, be they code-heavy projects or purely design ones. Our use of process won’t be just for the sake of using one, but it will be to ensure that our works for different clients remain consistent and, in the case of Web-based applications, robust and secure.
We are also hoping to provide a very special experience to all our clients, which is why we’re currently in the process of setting up our Client Area: it will be a central place where clients can, among other things, check on the progress of their respective projects, opt for receiving updates via email, RSS, SMS, etc. and manage the set of products or services that they have bought or those that they would like to buy.
So in short, there are lots of new things that we will be announcing in the near future. For now, don’t hesitate to drop us an email if you’ve got an idea for a project that you would like to discuss with us or if you just have some comments about the website. We’ve just gone live with it so there may very well be bits and pieces that need tweaking or fixing. We would love to hear from you! And don’t worry, our egos are shatter-proof."

Development of a state-of-the-art management system for Bahrain's 400,000 expatriates as part of the LMRA's efforts to regulate the labor market and ultimately aid in boosting the national economy.
Am currently responsible for 3 core system modules. Projects and artifacts that I have worked on include:
• LocalTableReplicator (an abstraction used for speeding up jobs by trading memory for time)
• Performance Tuning Project: a project that comprehensively audited the Expat Management System's performance-related issues and fixed them, producing a 100 page documentation detailing the motive, methodology, quantitative results and conclusions
• Airport Backup Continuity Application: an application that takes over when the Expat Management System goes offline to keep the enrollment processes at the Airport working in case of an outage
• Monthly invoices, Expat. print file generation and details applications
