Alfredo Delgado (alfred@adelgado.org)'s Experience

Internet Consultant

Alfredo Delgado

August 2000Present (11 years 6 months) Boca Raton, FL

I provide guidance to small and medium sized organizations who wish to establish or grow their online presence. This is accomplished through close communication with clients to ensure a clear understanding of their goals. Convergence with any offline materials is taken into consideration when creating or maintaining any content. Custom applications are written to improve any processes that can benefit from automation or a better interface. Original programming is accomplished in PHP, JavaScript and XHTML/CSS but maintenance for existing scripts can include PERL, ColdFusion, ASP, VBScript, etc.

Senior Web Developer

eSilo

Privately Held; 11-50 employees; Computer Software industry

August 2010August 2011 (1 year 1 month) Jupiter, FL

Worked directly with the CTO and database architect to arrive at requirements for an application portal that served as a central management console for an enterprise-class data backup and recovery system. This was implemented with Linux, Apache, PostgreSQL, and PHP on the backend and extensive use of object oriented JavaScript on the client-side. System configurations can scale to complex organizational structures and hardware assets deployed across the globe. When new developers came on board I helped orient them with established toolsets, patterns, and conventions. As my knowledge of the system grew I was able to contribute to architectural decisions as well as write key PostgreSQL functions.

Web Developer

Laird Plastics

Privately Held; 501-1000 employees; Plastics industry

February 2005August 2010 (5 years 7 months) Boca Raton, FL

Due to Laird's large size and small IT department, I had the opportunity to fulfill various roles. The success of projects required that I address tasks associated with systems and database administration through systems analysis and development. During my tenure I consolidated a diverse collection of accrued web platforms and technologies by bringing them in line with Laird's strategic IT business partners. The server stack was reduced to IBM i (OS/400), Apache, DB2/MySQL, and PHP (Zend Core/Platform). Most of Laird’s web applications interface with J.D. Edward's (JDE) World ERP system. This allowed us to provide better and more secure access to relevant JDE functionality for Laird's facilities across the U.S. and Canada as well as to customers.

Web Developer

eDiets.com

Public Company; 51-200 employees; DIET; Internet industry

March 2002February 2005 (3 years) Deerfield Beach, FL

Accepted feature specifications from Marketing and created production web applications. Responsible for managing expectations from internal client departments and requesting resources from support departments. Delivered the necessary ColdFusion, JavaScript and SQL to bring applications together. Applied design patterns that best fit the goals of easy code maintenance and efficient execution. Aided Quality Assurance in understanding the scope of projects so test plans properly stressed applications.

Privately Held; 1-10 employees; Financial Services industry

March 2000September 2000 (7 months) Deerfield Beach, FL

Part of a small team whose task was to create a cross-platform web application for mandatory filings required from public companies by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). I was responsible for all client-side programming and user interface design. JavaScript was used to maintain a complex user profile, error-checking input by SEC standards and calculating fees derived from SEC formulas. I helped wherever else was possible with tasks such as updating JSP code or writing shell scripts and provided input on implementation needs and goals throughout the development cycle.

Network Analyst

Verio

Privately Held; 201-500 employees; Internet industry

December 1998March 2000 (1 year 4 months) Boca Raton, FL

Main responsibilities consisted of monitoring shared web hosting servers to quickly diagnose any failures and resolve or escalate issues to minimize downtime. Services monitored on the servers included Apache, Stronghold SSL, Real Audio, POP3, SMTP, FTP, anonymous FTP and MySQL. Any problems affecting more than one customer were escalated by the technical support department and looked into. The customer service department was kept up-to-date on any outstanding issues. I implemented a network status page accessible from customers' control panels to note any outages lasting over 15 minutes. Server response-time, CPU loads and disk usage were monitored to proactively deal with any customer abuse and identify necessary upgrades. Gateway routers were monitored to ensure connectivity. Finding resolution for issues dealing with internal diagnostic, accounting, and tracking tools was a tertiary responsibility.
