I am an experienced web presence manager, with a background in helping organisations to develop their online presence into a cohesive and efficient operation.
I can boast a wide field of experience, covering web development in open source technologies, a strong background in creating easy-to-use, accessible, usable and attractive systems, and a number of years' experience in media fields, including newspaper and magazine, radio and web publishing.
I am also a friendly, hard-working, dedicated team worker, and it's not unusual for me to be found at the computer at 4am having woken up with a "eureka!" moment.
I have over five years' experience in web design, focusing on user interface and user experience design, as well as having a high degree of competency in PHP, CSS and X-HTML programming.
I also have a significant grounding in print and broadcast media production and management, as well as building a varied photography portfolio, all of which I feel allow me to make better judgements in my day-to-day work.
Many thanks for taking the time to find out more about me. If you would like to see some of my work, please visit my portfolio website at www.greyhead.co.uk/portfolio.

I was employed on a temporary basis to maintain and update the Deanery's websites.
As soon as I started I realised that there was a pressing need to update the content management system and, thanks to an open-minded manager, I was able to split my time roughly 60/40 between maintaining the website and working on the development of a new site.
After completing an exhaustive (and exhausting) evaluation process, the decision was made to employ the open-source content management framework Drupal to provide a flexible and future-proofed website management system.
The role involved web development, web design (with a strong focus on SEO and accessibility), training (as I was expected to ensure that departmental staff could maintain their own websites), good organisational skills (as I was expected to organise and run the website stakeholder meetings), and the ability to learn quickly (as I was frequently asked to take on work in areas I had little experience of!).
Overall this was a highly challenging role, which saw me working well past my 40 hours a week, and was a role I thoroughly enjoyed. I am also pleased to be able to say that the site I set up and developed, with the assistance of the Deanery's IT support team, will be launched in the week ending the 5th June 2009, after a thorough approval process.

Working in a sabbatical role as a trustee of the students’ union’s charity, I was involved in directing the students’ union’s student-led media operation. My duties included acting as editor-in-chief of the newly launched student newspaper “Pugwash News”, alongside the existing magazine, website and radio station. My role also required me to be proficient at photography, journalism, copy editing and web design, as well as a smidge of video production, media law, marketing and sales. Duties included overseeing a large team of student contributors and editors, developing and running media campaigns aimed at the key 18- to 25-year-old student population, working alongside permanent staff on media-related projects, and directing the growth of the union’s media operation, as well as acting as a legal trustee of the Union’s charity, with duties including acting as registered company signatory, and overseeing the effective and legal operation of the charity.
