Alef Arendsen’s Summary

I'm a technologist, entrepreneur and mentor, in no particular order.

Back in 2002 Joost van de Wijgerd and me founded JTeam with the vision to rule the Enterprise Open Source world. 5 years later, JTeam thrives, successfully helping companies in the Dutch market realize their goals, using state of the art enterprise systems. Those systems are built by a team brought together by Joost and me and using the vision we set forth. All this is further developed and managed by long-time friend and colleague Leonard Wolters.

In 2003, I joined the development team of Spring, now the de-facto standard in Enterprise Java development platforms (and open source). Spring was the technology Enterprise Java needed to survive. As a technologist, I enjoy seeing how Spring is the prime example of quality over quantity.

We quickly realized this potential could only be fully unleashed if Spring was backed by a commercial company, employing all of the key developers of the platform, first and foremost to serve the community at large (of users, customers and partners) in the best way possible and second of all to continue the development of the platform. In 2004, we founded Interface21, now called SpringSource.

In 2007, we moved our headquarters to Silicon Valley. We landed two rounds of investment, with excellent VC firms Benchmark and Accel. We're working our way towards becoming a leading vendor in the Enterprise Java middleware market.

At the moment I'm traveling a lot, mainly to consult with some of our key accounts, speak about our products at conferences such JAOO, JavaPolis, SpringOne and The Spring Experience and to meet up with colleagues around the world.

Alef Arendsen’s Specialties:

I have instincts, I inspire people, I understand technology like no other, I'm into economics. This is what I use to get things done and get people to the next level.
