Greater Chicago Area
Committed Engineering professional with a diverse technical and industry background who thinks and plans strategically, yet acts tactically with a sense of urgency. A hands-on leader with integrity who builds strong teams by recognizing and focusing on individual strengths and achieving results by creating team commitments. Utilizing excellent communications skills, I empower and enable team members by leading through example, edification, empathetic listening and mentoring.
Aggressively progressed through the Design Engineering career continuum to acquire sufficient hands-on experience at each level resulting in promotions to greater responsibility throughout my career. Possess strong knowledge of electronics packaging techniques, and material types and manufacturing processes for plastic and metallic part design, including rapid prototyping and analysis techniques and tools.
"Herding cats" (i.e., building and leading teams of highly skilled engineers and technicians), managing complex projects, public speaking and presentation. At the end of the day, I'll always be an engineer, with a love for solving problems and creating innovative designs, especially those requiring my plastics and electronics/electro-mechanical expertise.
(Design industry)

Drove meaningful and impactful strategic changes intended to expand the business base and increase billable hour ratio by the operational in-house staff of 30+ engineers, industrial designers, researchers, scientists and technicians.
(Privately Held; Telecommunications industry)
September 2003 — April 2008 (4 years 8 months)
Strategically rebuilt and unified Corporate and remote OSP Engineering team to include 11 engineers and numerous designers and one applications engineer with annual budget of >$2M. Team developed 5 totally new OSP product families over 4 years that produced almost $45M revenue/$22M profit.
(Public Company; MONI; Telecommunications industry)
1997 — 2003 (6 years)
Led department of 16 engineers and designers in 3 locations with $4M annual budget. Managed numerous, successful, large scale product design and development programs that produced >$100M revenue/$35M profit over 5 years, achieved 5 issued patents and 5 additional US and International Patents pending. Was recruited away by Charles Industries.
(Telecommunications industry)
1995 — 1997 (2 years)
Part of engineering team rebuilt into McMinnville manufacturing facility. Served as ProENGINEER Super User and System Administrator; designed and brought into full commercialization 2 complete products in < 16 months. Loved working here, but position was eliminated as part of new CEO (Al Dunlap) restructuring.
(Public Company; Plastics industry)
September 1994 — May 1995 (9 months)
Replaced Cadra 2D CAD system with ProENGINEER 3D CAD system, enabling first-time use of 3D customer data for downstream analysis and manufacturing. Performed lead mechanical design of new plastic front bezel and touch panel assembly for latest generation ultrasonic welding controller/power supply. Great place to work, was recruited away by Sunbeam.
(Defense & Space industry)
June 1985 — August 1994 (9 years 3 months)
Performed mechanical engineering and design tasks, and managed other engineers, designers, drafters and contractors in programs to develop electronics systems for use in airborne radar and ground-based military equipment. Introduced and pioneered use of ProENGINEER 3D CAD and rapid prototyping, reducing overall product mechanical design and development cycle by 25% (some parts by over 50%). Designed first plastic parts used in Norden electronics systems. My first job, where I learned from some of the best designers and scientists in the world, and learned how to work with all skill levels and capabilities. Held Secret, Top Secret and SAR clearances.
MS , Management Engineering , 1983 — 1986
Pursued this field of study at night, and chose this after trying an MSME and MBA track, but not finding professional fulfillment and salience in them.
BS , Mechanical Engineering , 1974 — 1978
Learned from some of the leaders in Engineering, and also learned many life lessons from life-long friends in The Big Apple. Go Lions!
