Alan Mäkinen’s Interests:

I enjoy making paintings, drawings, and other forms of visual art. My cultural pastimes include studying (beginner’s) French; listening to live and recorded music; reading fiction, history, and biography; and attending shows and exhibitions at art galleries, museums, and cinemas. My most recent volunteer stints have been with a community bookstore-resource center and with an independent publishers organization. I've long had an interest in food systems and their relationship to health, ecology, and social justice. Thus, I follow and support the work of the Organic Consumers Association and the Institute for Food and Development Policy. I get exercise by walking and hiking.
