We are an independently operated outfit whose goal is to explore black life as it relates to women and girls, across place, class, time and sexuality. Our projects are intensely personal and through them, we hope to shed light on the contradictions, triumphs, perils, and beauty that is black womanhood. Super Hussy Media is dedicated to exploring the everyday within the black diaspora, particularly the true lives of young women, girls and families.
For far too long, black girlhood, black women and the black family have been dismissed, ignored or used as the canvas where society paints all of its ills. Black females have become the face of poverty; the face of promiscuity; and the face of all that is negative within the black community and society at large.
We at Super Hussy Media investigate what it is to black and female in all of its many facets. Black women come in every shade, economic and social class and inhabit the spectrum of sexual orientations. Yet, what we see of black women is that they are either hypersexual booty shakers, deviants, unfit and uncaring mothers, superstar performers, or Oprah (not that there is anything wrong with being Oprah, ahem.)
We utilize the lives of black women and families, both historic and contemporary as a tool for empowerment. By illuminating the hardships, triumphs, struggles and and complexities of black womanhood, we seek to change the paradigm through which black women are viewed and ultimately, how they view themselves.
Through books, film, workshops and whatever else floats our boat, we shall show and prove!

I can do quite a bit for you, your organization, and the population you serve.
Curriculum Development: With the ever-changing needs of youth, coupled with the rapid changes in society, devising curriculum that speaks to your participants’ needs can be daunting. That’s where I come in. While my expertise is with students in grades 9-12, I have also written curriculum for students in lower grades.
Whether you are looking for a summer theme, a multi-session unit, or a year-long curriculum, I can work with you and your staff to create an integrated program that will truly engage your participants.
Workshop Facilitation/Teaching: Over the last decade, I have created academic and cultural arts-based programs that help support creative thinking, increase critical inquiry skills, impart knowledge and allows participants to begin looking at themselves within a global and historical perspective. Workshops include:
College and Career Preparation
Multicultural Media Representation
Write Right: Building Critical Skills Through Literature
Poets of the African Diaspora
Dialogue Through Film Critique
Community Filmmaking
Self-Esteem: How To Get It & Keep It (gender based)
This is just a limited sampling of the workshops I have created and implemented. Not only can I facilitate these workshops for your population, I can also supply you with the materials for your staff. In addition, I can create a workshop based on your needs and the needs of your participants.
Staff Development: I have created and implemented one-shot and multi-session staff development workshops surrounding the topics of adolescent development and working with teens.
Panel Discussion/Keynote Addresses: My expertise in youth development, advocacy and non-traditional education lends me to being an excellent choice for discussions. I have both the theoretical and practical knowledge regarding working with “at risk” youth in out-of-school educational settings.
