Agnieszka Lichanska’s Summary

I have worked in microbiology, genetics and molecular biology for over 15 years with gene expression in various biological systems as the main theme of my work over the years. I have started in microarray technology area 7 years ago and since used various platforms, numerous sample sources, organisms and array technologies. Later I expanded my interests into diagnostics and in addition to microarrays I worked on metabolic profiling to identify the biomarkers of metabolic diseases. More recently I have re-focused on microbial infectious diseases with which I have worked before. Thus not surprisingly I currently work on development of novel diagnostic tools for infectious diseases using microarray technology, on validation of those assays and automation of the technology for clinical applications.

I remain an active member of the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), Australasian Microarray and Associated Technologies Association (AMATA) and Metabolomics Society as well as active member of a number of discussion groups, in particular those related to microarray technology. I see these links as an important contribution to encourage young students to continue expanding their horizons in life sciences and develop the next generation of biotechnology professionals.
