Corporate Communications Director at Pierce Mattie PR, Beauty Blogger, Social Media Consultant
Scranton, Pennsylvania Area
In 2005, Shannon Nelson launched her beauty blog, A Girl’s Gotta Spa!, as a way to bring relevant and easy to understand product reviews with a dose of honesty, integrity and humor to women across the globe. As one of a handful of beauty bloggers at the time, it resonated with women looking for product opinion before they made a purchase.
In 2006, she partnered with b5media LLC to write Makeup Minute and was brought on board as Chief Blogger and Publicist for Pierce Mattie Public Relations. By 2008, Pierce Mattie Public Relations promoted her to the role of Corporate Communications Director. That same year she also began social media consulting with beauty brands independently regarding their social media strategies.
Shannon’s ability to balance her role as a blogger and social media consultant have given her unique insight into the beauty industry from both the consumer’s perspective, as well as from a branding standpoint. Her vast experience and knowledge of social media combined with a strategy-driven focus and ability to explain various initiatives in straight-forward, easy to understand language, have positioned her as a go-to resource for many beauty brands.
She has been a guest speaker for ICMAD, Spa Clique, the HBA Expo and most recently, Cosmoprof North America. She has been quoted in publications such as Glamour, Woman’s World, NailPro, Trendi, PRWeek, GCI and On Makeup Magazine. She has had the pleasure to work with Three Custom Color Specialists, Renée Rouleau, Travertine Spa, among others.

I am the "girl" behind A Girl's Gotta Spa! A Beauty blog written, not from the point of view from a beauty industry professional, but as a typical consumer. This beauty blog focuses on beauty news, tips and product reviews.
When I blog, consumers listen, mostly because I speak to them and not above them. I continue to be contacted by beauty industry Public Relations professionals to send me products to try out and review, of which my readers can be guaranteed an honest review.
