I have a strong interest in internet community building and especially the development of a universal 'metaverse' through persistent, continuous virtual worlds such as Second Life. I believe we're entering the next 'era of the internet' and currently bleeding edge systems such as Second Life, There.com, and Open Croquet are the foundations of a much larger and more significant 3d interactive space.
I've been working in, around, and for virtual worlds for almost a decade, starting with text-based environments and moving into the graphically-rich worlds that exist now.
My academic focus was computer science, but my passion has always been the social and cultural implications of technology. With a strong background in both communications and computer science, I am an effective translator between the business and engineering sides of projects.
In Second Life, I'm known as Adri Saarinen.
