Sexton co-founded New Medici to advise media, technology and lifestyle brands on long term digital and media strategies in marketing, social media, partnerships, business development and operations.
Working with clients including Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures/Comcast, Sony Asia, Groupon, 20th Century Fox, the CBC, Vevo, Ogilvy/WPP, the Producers Guild of America/CEA, Austrade (Australian Government), independent film companies The Film Arcade, Solstice, NeoClassics and start-ups including Palindrome (Happy Madison), Bigstar, Muxlim, 3DTV, Talentcall and Pixable, Sexton's expertise lies in building, marketing and then monetizing audiences.
New Medici’s clients represent a hybrid blend of traditional and digital media companies. On a go-to-market basis, Sexton and his team handle strategic marketing, product development, content and technology partnerships, social media strategy and media planning for studios and startups. Sexton was named to the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Backstage Digital All-Stars in 2013. New Medici was awarded the British Airways/Harvard Business Review entrepreneurialism award in 2009.
In charge of Dynamics' market and business development for its content and brand ecosystem, working with major studios, talent agencies, global theatrical exhibitors, charities, game publishers, lifestyle brands and retailers. Built BD/sales team with pipeline to 10,000 top brands.
Dynamics produces and manufactures intelligent powered cards such as advanced payment cards. Focused on introducing fast-cycle innovation to top card issuers like VISA, the company's first commercial application is the world's first fully card-programmable magnetic stripe. Dynamics is backed with over $40M by Bain Capital Ventures and Adams Capital Management.
Sexton consulted Participant overseeing digital via TAG Strategic beginning in September 2006, then was appointed head of Digital (EVP) at Participant Media in January 2007.
He was responsible for running the company's expansion into global media, digital distribution and marketing, and architected TakePart.com, its social action network™. Traffic to TakePart, included its blog network and acquired sites, grew 1000% year over year during Sexton’s tenure. He later consulted Participant during its TakePart beta launch in 2009.
Sexton led the greenlight investment of social marketing site TakePart.com ($10M+ investment); shared executive committee work involving Summit Entertainment financing (later acquired by Lionsgate for $412.5M), and the film investment from Imagenation Abu Dhabi ($250M).
Sexton worked on Participant films’ Waiting for Superman, Food Inc., The Visitor, Charlie Wilson’s War, Fast Food Nation, The Kite Runner, and the Academy Award®-winning documentaries An Inconvenient Truth and The Cove.
Sexton co-founded TAG Strategic, a digital media and entertainment agency with EMI veteran and digital pioneer Ted Cohen. TAG’s diverse client roster has included Lionsgate, Eyespot, Qualcomm, Sandisk, Muze, LimeWire, Participant Media and LivePlanet.
Sexton strategized digital distribution, marketing and business planning for media companies and interactive startups, including IP licensing deals with Lucasfilm. TAG launched a digital entertainment partnership with Edelman, creating end-to-end business, distribution and communications strategy counsel.
Sexton was hired out of TAG Strategic by entertainment client, Participant Media, to run digital full time in January 2007.
Sexton headed Digital Media as Vice President at Lionsgate, where he oversaw the day-to-day marketing, operations, production, media planning and business development for digital and mobile properties. He also worked in corporate development, supporting the studio's catalog growth and financing.
His duties encompassed theatrical, home entertainment, television, international and physical studios. He oversaw the digital campaigns for such movies as the Best Picture Academy Award ®-winning Crash, Oscar®-winning Monster’s Ball, Fahrenheit 9/11, as well as the SAW and Tyler Perry franchises. He and his team were awarded a Clio for the first SAW film website.
Sexton identified multiple-platform marketing, distribution and sales opportunities for the studio’s 8000+ title film library in such high-growth markets as broadband, mobile, digital cinema, peer-to-peer and IPTV. Lionsgate’s market capitalization rose from $60 million to $1.2 billion during Sexton’s tenure; and he was part of the senior team which secured the $350 million credit facility to acquire Artisan Entertainment.
Sexton was director of new media at MediaPact Capital, a $500M media management and investment company, run by former Sony Pictures Television head, Jon Feltheimer, and Prudential Securities managing director, Michael Burns. In early 2000, Mediapact led a $33M preferred equity position in Lionsgate with strategic partners - Paul Allen's Vulcan Ventures, Capital Research and Fidelity Investments - taking over management control at Lionsgate.
Coordinated creative, marketing and development deals, executive sessions and research with domestic and international networks, agencies and producers under President Jon Feltheimer.
Organized internal pitch, sales and marketing agendas with Columbia TriStar Domestic and International Television, Distribution, Telemundo and the Game Show Network. Facilitated development and distribution on such titles as "Mad About You," "The King of Queens," "Dawson's Creek" and "Seinfeld."
Developed 20th Century Fox Television MOWs (Movies of the Week) properties. Handled script analysis across novels, screenplays and magazine articles, including works by Stephen King and Oscar Hijuelos.

In October 2009, New Medici was awarded the British Airways/Harvard Business Review entrepreneurialism award. Sexton was named to the Backstage Digital All-Stars in March 2013, alongside Netflix's Chief Creative Officer Ted Sarandos.
