Director of Library and Instructional Technology at Otis College of Art and Design
Greater Los Angeles Area
Sue Maberry has been the Director of the Library since 1992. She holds an MLS degree for San Jose State University and a BA in Art from Pitzer College. As a librarian, she has supported the embedding of information literacy instruction primarily within the Liberal Arts and Sciences curriculum. Under her direction, the collection has grown dramatically and been enhanced with the addition of DVDs, databases, and electronic books. For the past several years, she has served at the Chair of the Technology Committee and directed instructional technology initiatives for the College. In this capacity, she has received several multi-year grants for projects including the digitization of the Artists’ Books Special Collection and the development of the Art History Teaching Image Bank. As a result of digitization experience, all Otis faculty now use digital images for teaching rather than slides. She also directed the development of a new and highly successful Teaching/Learning Center for Otis Faculty. Through the program, faculty receive just-in-time assistance, workshops, and grants to incorporate technology within their courses as well as consider the pedagogy involved. Innovative technologies such as electronic portfolios, a learning management system, podcasting, YouTube videos, learning objects, blogs, and wikis are becoming common place at Otis.
