Although I did not know it at the time, I headed down the road to statistics while working at Procter & Gamble analyzing results from consumer focus groups and taste tests. In addition I designed and analyzed experiments to determine optimal process operating conditions for powdered beverage mixing. I continued down the road while working in a fruit fly genetics lab at the University of Minnesota studying genetic effects on phenotype. I realized I would need a formal education in statistics and I enrolled in a Master's program in Biostatistics at the University of Minnesota. The world of statistics appeared much more subjective than I had ever thought before and this intrigued me. I continued my studies and enrolled in a PhD program in Statistics at Duke University.
