Frances Manwaring’s Summary
I am currently Director of two exciting digital businesses - Shrew Publishing Limited (formed in 2001) and Virtual Expos New Zealand Limited (formed Dec 2008).
Shrew Publications was set up to produce Shrew Magazine, an original satirical women's monthly which has now morphed into shrewonline.com, a website which retained much of the original concept, but took advantage of web technology to reach larger audiences. Shrewonline is currently being 'refreshed' to incorporate new media options and will be re-launched in early 2009 . Shrew publications also continues to undertake selected consulting and project management assignments in our areas of expertise.
My newest 'baby', Virtual Expos NZ, set up in conjunction with three other Wellington busienss people at the end of 2008, is a wonderful opportunity to harness new virtual technologies to help New Zealand enterprises find new ways of connecting with the rest of the world to attract business, people and ideas.
After attending school and university in Scotland, I was London based for thirteen years with early career highlights including three years in international media and eight years in the venture capital industry. I moved to New Zealand at the end of 1994 and held the position of general manager and company secretary of a group of retail pharmacies, headquartered in Hawke's Bay.
At the beginning of 2006 I relocated to Wellington and took up the position of Sector Manager for Positively Wellington Business, the Wellington Region's economic development agency with responsibility for the ICT and Specialist Manufacturing Sectors until it re-formed as Grow Wellington in February 2008 at which time I decided to concentrate on my own business interests.
