Alan Safani has been involved in the ancient art trade for over 25 years and is a well recognized authority on the arts of Eastern Mediterranean cultures, notably Turkey, Greece and Italy, as well as the ancient cultures of Levant, Iraq, and Iran.
Mr.Safani has also coordinated several exhibitions on ancient art, the most recent being The Art of the Cyclades, The Art of Rome, and The Art of Ancient Egypt.
Alan has a postgraduate degree in art history and archaeology from New York University's Institute of Fine Arts.
Alan Safani is a third generation art dealer. His grandfather, Dr.Benjamin Abolghassem Mahboubian, a noted authority on ancient near eastern art excavated extensively with the French in Iraq in the 1930's, notably Hamadan, and Susa. Dr.Mahboubian assisted in more than 100 excavations over a period of fifty years and was involved in the discovery of many of the known archaeological sites in Iran.
Many of his discoveries have entered the collections of museums and private collections - the Louvre, the British Museum, the Bastan Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Metropoltian Museum of Art in New York and the Cleveland Museum. Dr. Mahboubian also had an extensive private collection which is now part of the private collections of his children and grandchildren.

Alan Safani is also an avid bicycle rider and rides regularly in Central Park and the environs of New York City. He plans to take bicycle tours of Eastern Europe and South America as well as bicycle along the Appalachian Trail. More recently, Alan Safani has become interested in game theory and how it relates to poker strategies. His particular interest centers on the risk/reward ratios in bluffing in No Limit Texan Hold’em in cash games and tournament play.
Alan Safani has been involved with the Healing Arts Alliance, a group of independent healers using lomilomi, a comprehensive spiritual and physical ritual that begins with prayer and continues with cleansing the body internally and externally. The goal of the alliance is to promote health and healing through holistic cures centered on massage and meditation.
