When you were younger, did you ever play the “telephone” game? If not, you might have heard of it: a gathered group of friends create a line and whisper a phrase from the first person to last. The goal: keep the message the same from start to finish, when the last person in line states what they hear out-loud. The reality: the original message is almost always distorted and watered-down.
In “real-life,” graphic designers and their clients are usually buffered by go-betweens (account executives, art directors, etc.). While these
intermediaries can be helpful, they inherently create a large-scale version of the telephone game. Unfortunately, our childhood pastime is not as entertaining in the business world: diluted communication often results in sub-par design.
I started 13thirtyone in 2005 because I firmly believe that remarkable graphic design stems from unobstructed, one-on-one relationships between designer and client. By working together directly, we become partners in the creative process. Together, we develop phenomenal identity pieces and websites that reinforce your brand and make a statement.

As a solo entrepreneur, my tasks include account management, marketing and promotions, website and graphic design, accounting, contract development and creative writing.
