A simple innovation could avoid further health problems as rains hit Haiti.
16 months on and the havoc seen in this video http://bit.ly/d1GNYq a year ago, are likely to be repeated now as the rains set in and cholera cases rise. For the many thousands of families still under tarpaulins it seems to me a simple innovation could stop this necessity to puncture tarps to stop collapse and sewage washing underfoot.
The innovation works like this;
1. Take 4 tent poles and lash them together to form a reciprocal frame roof for supporting the tarp.
2. Incline the frame slightly to encourage water run off in one direction.
3.Align all these shelters in rows so that water runs off into a communal dug trench and away.
Unlike with the usual tarp shelters this central frame will stop water accumulating and its strength will prevent collapse.
I would be interested to hear this group members thoughts on this.
