As we all know ROI is a hugely important part of any marketing campaign but what is the best way to measure ROI against?

Year on year? Cost of the campaign? Industry benchmarks?

What do you think is the best way to measure ROI on your marketing campaigns? Defining exactly what your ROI is can be harder than it seems – what should you be measuring against? Here are some good and not so good ideas:
