Roel

What are the best sites to list a Kindle book in it's free promotion days?

Senior QA Lead at Percona

Let me start with this shortlist:
http://www.totallyfreestuff.com/http://www.icravefreebies.com/contact/http://www.pixelofink.com/sfkb/http://bargainebookhunter.com/feature-your-book/http://ereadernewstoday.com/category/free-kindle-books/

Note that some of these sites may have quite inappropriate content. They are only listed here to provide a shortlist of sites to submit your new kindle books to.

What other sites do you know of?

    Roel,

    We design books and are working with a lot of authors. Here are some of the sites we have helped them get on.

    http://shelfbuzz.com/ (The one catch: better have a great cover. This is how they choose the books to celebrate indie authors who actually get their cover designed by pros)

    http://digitalbooktoday.com/ (Give a daily list of books delivered to email)

    http://www.pixelofink.com/ (Also give a daily list of books delivered to email)

    Hope this helps!

    Hi, like you I can't vouch for the content on all these sites but I've added a link to all the sites I've come across since I started self publishing in January and they are listed on my blog roll at http://rgrankine.blogspot.co.uk there's too many to list here! Best, Rob. (A lot of review sites also offer free listings)

    Here are a few more tips to get the biggest bang out of KDP Select free days:

    Schedule your free days. Consider scheduling on a Wed / Thurs or just Thurs to capitalize on the exposure. Big sales days in a week are Fri, Sat, Sun. So don’t give it away free on those days.

    Send requests to following to get your free book listed. Do this a few days ahead of time to give the site owners time to post your book.
    A WEEK BEFORE YOUR FREE DAY:
    • All Things Kindle (FB) http://www.facebook.com/allthingskindle?sk=wall – Be sure to read the Info page for directions on how to get listed.
    • Pixel of Ink www.pixelofink.com;
    • Kindle Boards www.kindleboards.com (under Book Bazaar) ;
    • Digital Book Today www.digitalbooktoday.com;
    • World Literary Café www.worldliterarycafe.com – does monthly lists of Kindle freebies; not working

    Add “Kindle Freebie” and “Kindle Free” tags to your book on Amazon page.
    Post about your free book on your other social networking sites (Linked In, Stumble Upon, Triberr, Google+, etc.)
    Tweet like crazy:
    • @kindlebookpulse
    • @kindlebookblast
    • @kindlenews
    • #FreeKindlebooks #freekindle #freebook
    • #FreeKindleEbooks #ReadThis #Kindle #authorshelpingauthors

    Get authors in your cross promotion group to tweet like crazy (and thank them for it).
    Send email newsletter.
    Post about it on your blog.

    After Your Free Days

    1. Don’t lower your price. You just did a lot of hard work to generate sales by offering it free. Keep your book at regular price and enjoy the higher royalties on the new wave of sales.

    1. Keep up the momentum for a few days. If your free days ended before the weekend, keep up strong promotion efforts (through social networking) through the weekend.

    More Tips for Going Free

    Other ways to promote your free Kindle ebook:

    1. Tag your book on Amazon with the words "free ebook" and "kindle freebie" so that the search engines and some sites will pick it up.

    1. Tweet (use hashtags #FreeKindleBook #freebook #free)

    1. Post to your Facebook page.
    2. Create a small graphic and post it to your blog or website. Pin the graphic on Pinterest.
    3. Blog it, of course.
    4. Post your promotion in writer's forums. Make sure you follow TOC's and only post your promotion where it is acceptable.
    5. Arrange with book bloggers to guest blog during your free days.
    6. Send a message to @kindlenews on twitter. They have over 20,000 followers.

    Just so you know, this takes quite a lot of time. On your free day, you may not be able to do much other than send messages to all the sites indicated.

    Oh yeah, I forgot:

    You'll get the biggest bang from KDP Select free days if your book is part of a series and (a big and) your ebook contains prominent links to the Amazon sales pages of the other ebooks in your series. If your ebook is part of a series and the entire series is enrolled in KDP Select, you can stage rolling free promotions from one ebook to the next with a little time in between each free promo. Your whole series will get a nice and, hopefully, permanent lift as a result.
