Hi Dennis, I would expect that design agencies would be of an Organic structure rather than Mechanistic to encourage the creativity required.

Of course these are extremes on a scale, but the difference in cooperative participation rather than hierarchical rules and bureaucracy may offer one level of insight.

Hi guys,, aren't more companies becoming organic and don't we all need creativity. The agencies I worked with are certainly organic (jee, sounds like "Bio" so must be popular these days), but in the end if a decision needs to be made and there's no concensus the decision will be made anyhow. Maybe you should call it practical.
Pretty theorectical, If the different roles are well designed and individuals match those roles and are of high quality the agencies do excellent work. It really depends on the individual, just like in sales :-).

Hi Michel, Dennis, The Agony and Ecstasy- A year wih English Ballet recently shown on BBC Four offers a pretty extreme insight into managing a creative process. Looking past the ballet and looking at the personalities, structure and process offers interesting insight into some of the challenges of the organised anarchy which enables true creativity.

Just as Michel points out decisions get made, but just watching how is pretty painful at times... worth half watching whilst doing something else and paying attention to the talking sections.
