The Society of Actuaries (SOA) is the largest professional actuarial association dedicated to serving over 22,000 members, candidates and the public in the U.S., Canada and worldwide. Based in Schaumburg, Illinois, its vision is for actuaries to be the leading professionals in the measurement and management of risk.
Our mission is to advance actuarial knowledge and to enhance the ability of actuaries to provide expert advice and relevant solutions for financial, business and societal problems involving uncertain future events.
Actuaries bring a complex future into focus and, offer unique insight into risk and opportunity and will define the balance of risk in today's business climate.
Guided by our Board of Directors and with the dedicated work of hundreds of volunteer members, we work collaboratively with our partner actuarial organizations—nationally and globally - to enhance the role and overall impact of actuaries in business and society.
The SOA is committed to:
+ Providing basic education in the fundamental principles of actuarial science, advanced education and professional development, and continuing education for practicing actuaries.
+ Conducting research to develop studies of historical experience and techniques for projections into the future, analyzing the actuarial aspects of public policy issues and providing the foundation for further expansion of the profession.
+ Promoting high standards of professional competence and conduct within the actuarial profession
