A mature industry needs three things at a bare minimum to allow it the strength to coalesce around collective ideas and 'get on the same page' about the paths the industry needs to take to grow and move forward. Those three things are:

1. Trade publications
2. Tradeshows or conferences
3. industry-wide lobbying and advocacy

The web hosting industry has 2 out of 3. That's great - but it's the lack of that third piece, that important missing piece, that could doom the web hosting industry.

We're under threat by a number of different forces. The U.S. Federal government has reassigned Copyright protection online to the Department of Homeland Security, and is drafting laws that subvert due process and bring great risk to U.S. based hosts and their clients. In areas of security, privacy and intellectual property all eyes are on our industry right now, and we have no seat at the table and no voice with which to explain both how we can help solve problems and what proposed solutions would break the back of our industry.

It's time to get motivated and get involved. Like this page and stay in touch to find out more as we kick off a series of conversations about how to find our collective voice as an industry, a voice we need if we wish to not just survive but to thrive. « less
