OTEC is a method for generating electricity using the thermal potential from the upper and lower sea waters. The thermal potential is highest in the equatorial zones.

The challenge is to cross the gap to get to full commercial deployment of OTEC power plants. Deployment of pilot and demonstration projects will help maturing the OTEC technology to make it both reliable and affordable.

Desired results:
• Significant reduction of the OTEC capital investments through innovative concepts for any or all of the key components of the OTEC system: the cold water pipe, seawater pump, heat exchanger and heat engine;
• Detailed design of the possible novel approaches to cold water pipe design, deployment and recovery;
• Evaluation of the short and long term environmental impact of large scale OTEC implementation on the level of conceptual impact.

Let's team up and contribute towards OTEC deployment. « less
