New to the Group - A Brief Introduction
Hi. My name is Rocco Leonard Martino. Most people call me Rocky. I am a Catholic. I like to think of myself as a thinking Catholic. That's because of my training. Nominally I am a mathematician and an astrophysicist. Unofficially I think of myself as a theologian and philosopher. That's because of a beautiful set of circumstances. I attended the University of Toronto in the heyday of the great modern philosophers at St. Michael's University there. I attended theology-philosophy courses presented by Jacques Maritain, Etienne Gilson, Anton Pegis and Marshall McLuhan. I also attended science courses conducted by Leopold Infeld, HSM Coxeter, Gilbert Robinson, George Watson, and Gordon Neil Patterson. I straddled both the worlds of science and religion. But for me it was all truth and different ways of describing that truth. I could never find any conflict in the truth itself, only in individuals and how they interpreted those truths. My interest in Truth and how to describe it hasn't waned over the years. While a poet and a physicist would have different descriptions for a sunset, the truth of the sunset is clear - its light is gone. I look forward to many discussion of the interface between the different disciplines as we seek to describe 'what is'.
