Strategies for De-growth are being plotted.

It is inevitable that we need to stop doing things we love. Like riding a car for two hours to the seashore just to see the sun set. As we need to stop doing delightful things like this we might feel as if the beauty in our lifes is threatened.

Fear not! De-growth can be made sexy and fun. We only need to rethink what is considered beautiful. We already have in our mindsets the appreciation for old, vintage and classic stuff. Turning this into the root of sustainable design is doable.

We will not turn into conservatives if we begin appreciating maintenance of old stuff over the creation of new. If something this will make our generation radical. Let's start from something arbitrary like chairs... Look around, which of the chairs you see do you love enough to repair? Do it.

NO-CHAIR-DESIGN is a challenge for designers and creative thinkers alike. A challenge to NOT design chairs in the year 2012. It's that simple.

"We believe that the world already has enough chairs. Designing new ones only takes time away from renovating the ones we already have. Consider this the ultimate challenge for you to rethink how sustainable design should be manifested. If not that... Then think about the amount of time you'll save when you don't have to design chairs for a year." « less
