How to promote an app for football fans travelling to Euro 2012

Managing Director at the Digitalists Interactive Agency Ltd

My company is in final stages of testing mobile travel app geared specifically for football fans travelling to Ukraine for Euro 2012 games. It's going to be in free and paid versions for iPhone (initially), Android, and possibly later Blackberry, iPad and Bada.

Both versions have directory listings by category (hotels, food places, pubs), access to online maps, useful tips for staying in Ukraine. Premium version has two extra features: access to offline maps, so no roaming charges apply, English to Ukrainian phrase book (with spelling and audio sample of a phrase).

I’d like to ask community for ideas on where to access community of English National team fans. I know there’s a Facebook community https://www.facebook.com/EnglandTeam . I’ll try to get in touch with someone from the FA, hopefully via LinkedIn.

Also, I plan to give away promo codes to football forums moderators with hope they’ll recommend the app for forums’ members.

What do you suggest I shall do?

    Hi Sergi

I am a marketing copywriter and worked on something similar for the last World Cup, so am quite familiar with how to reach England fans. The best advice I can give you is to approach them through club-based routes rather than looking purely for 'England fans'. There is far more online activity surrounding individual clubs than the national team and all clubs have a percentage of supporters that follow England, so by promoting your App through club-based forums etc you are guaranteed to reach a significant proportion of England fans.

    I hope this helps

Martin, thank you for advice! Will go that route, for sure. App is now in review process on Apple App Store and in a few days we'll be submitting it to Google Play and Blackberry App World.

The application has been delivered for Android devices on Google Play https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.thedigitalists.fansguide2012 . iTunes App Store is still waiting for review.
