Help Wanted. . . . For Chinese Students Studying in the USA at OSU!

Director Employee Relations at Novelis North America

In May I was recognized “For Outstanding Contributions towards Diversity Enhancement” through the Office of Minority Student Services at The Ohio State University. The “Chinese Business Professional Association” nominated me because of the support I have provided the group. This group consists of highly-talented students from China who are pursuing their graduate business degrees at Ohio State. If any of you has had experience supporting or otherwise helping Chinese students studying in the United States and have advice you can share for things like useful resources, web sites, careers, job search, green cards, etc. I would be delighted to hear about it. Thank you!

A great resource for Chinese students studying at OSU is the OSU Writing Center (http://cstw.osu.edu/writingcenter).

The Writing Center often works with graduate, international, and ELL students as well as with business writing.

For what it is worth, if there are any chess players in the group, I would be willing to meet with a student from time to time, play a game of chess or two and talk with him or her a bit. ogdenj1@nationwide.com

As an alumnus who travels to China frequently I have a profound appreciation for the cross cultural developments in just the past decade not to mention OSU's opening of its China Gateway office in Shanghai. I am more than happy to be a resource for any students who have questions about doing business in the U.S. or any other and have already connected here on Linked In with several who are studying at Ohio State.

Take them shopping at Columbus Asian Market - http://www.huaxin.us - 817 Bethel Rd. We took a friend of my daughter, a recent graduate of Carnegie Mellon, who has just taken his first job in Columbus. Alan literally jumped for joy when he saw the selection - and signs in Chinese.

Chess anyone? What a thoughtful gesture John. Perhaps one of the grad students will take you up on your offer. I will definitely share.

    Best!
