ABOUT THE INSTITUTE

The Doha Film Institute (DFI), founded in 2010 by H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa Bint Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, is an independent cultural organisation established to incorporate Qatar’s film initiatives under one banner.

DFI leadership is comprised of DFI board members H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Fahad Al-Thani, H.E. Dr. Hassan Al-Nimah and H.E. Sheikh Jabor Bin Yousuf Al-Thani, as well as Executive Director Amanda Palmer.

DFI’s many endeavours range from funding for MENA and international films to production, year round educational programmes and film screenings, as well as the annual Doha Tribeca Film Festival.

DFI’s cultural partners include New York’s Tribeca Enterprises, Martin Scorsese’s World Cinema Foundation, and Mira Nair’s Maisha Filmmaker Labs.

The Doha Film Institute (DFI) is dedicated to film appreciation, education, and the creation of a sustainable film industry in Qatar. We are Qatar’s all-encompassing film and cultural hub, committed to supporting the MENA region, and aim to inspire, nurture and empower a new generation of storytellers both locally and globally.

We are community minded with core values that profoundly promote understanding, dialogue and debate through storytelling and the medium of film. By both creating and attracting a skilled workforce in this field, we fuse local knowledge with global experience, allowing for a visionary and dynamic credibility worldwide. DFI is not only shaping a sustainable and long-term film industry in Qatar, but is also providing an industry-wide resource, successfully bringing Qatar to the world, and the world to Qatar.
