The Deflation Study Group is dedicated to discussing the phenomena of deflation. What is it? What causes it? Is it good or bad? Is there anything that can be done about it, and what are strategies to cope or even profit from it? Inflation has been the big fear for most of the 20th century yet the Great Recession of the 21st century seems to be following a different path with asset price declines and even dollar appreciation. Is Japan’s multi-decade sojourn into deflation since 1989 a taste of what the rest of the developing world will see?
