The panel has been organized to analyze and discuss online crowdfunding platforms. We are constantly searching for ways to learn from or improve the current models.

The members of this group will initially be invite-only and will come from a diverse background.

Crowdfunding is a method of raising capital through a network of friends, family, fans and contacts using online tools or platforms. It is similar to microfinancing and modeled after popular crowdsourcing platforms.

There are a number of crowdfunding sites that cater to the arts - film, music, journalism. However, many startups in other verticals could use crowdfunding to fund their projects. Therefore, in my opinion, new sites will appear on the landscape and the current sites will evolve to serve those other verticals.

Some of the questions we will answer are the following: How are these platforms staying within the bounds of the SEC rules? Are there risks that they might cross the lines? Also, if they do abide by the rules, how will they fit in the financing cycle? Do they have the potential to be extremely disruptive or simply enhance the cycle? In times of good capital markets will certain models be less attractive to start-ups and arts projects? « less
