This group has been established in order to provide a forum for all actors along the bioplastics value chain, from raw materials manufacturers and suppliers, through to manufacturers, converters, packaging companies, brand leaders, retailers, waste management stakeholders and scientific and academic researchers to discuss the latest developments in the bioplastics industry and to assess the obstacles and opportunities that exist for bioplastics to fulfill its potential. We welcome the input of any interested participants. The group will act as a forum and repository for innovations, new initiatives, debates and events both in Europe and globally.

The group has emerged following a new, participatory forum that has been set up for the same reason in the Netherlands, the Dutch Bioplastics Value Chain, and has brought together leading companies and organisations to address the opportunities and obstacles that face the bioplastics industry in Europe. The group will provide updates and information on the progress of the Dutch Bioplastics Value Chain and other, similar initiatives in other countries as they develop.

The results of the Dutch Bioplastics Value Chain to date have been formulated in a position paper, entitled “Bioplastics in Europe: A Tangible Example of the Potential of the Bio-based Economy”.
