The story of www.gazzetta.gr goes 3 years back, when it started its life in Greek Internet. Currently gazzetta.gr is among the Top 3 sports news portals in Greece, serving almost 200.000 unique visitors and 1.600.000 pageviews per day!
The site was initially implemented in Joomla due to specific business constraints, but as soon as our current technical team was established, we started planning the migration to Drupal.
Changing a live platform that serves 1.600.000 pageviews per day it's not the easiest job of the world. You have to plan carefully your data migration, dns changes, physical server changes, run stress tests, take care of search bots and handle changes in the URL structure of the site among other things.
We did our homework, planned very carefully all the steps (we plan to share all tricks and tips in another extended post/presentation) we had our bad, heavily pressing moments during the launch, but right now we are in the happy position to watch gazzetta.gr built in Drupal 6 serving its content really smoothly, with a server setup working quite optimized and a lot of work in front of us, in order to improve even more our high availability, to add even more functionality and to make the life of admins even easier.
