For over 40 years, the Upper Valley Educators Institute has been a national leader in preparing adults for careers as teachers and school leaders. The UVEI alternative teacher certification model differs from a traditional school of education program by reversing the percentage of time traditionally allotted to academic theory and actual practice. UVEI also offers its own competency-based Masters Programs in education and school leadership.
A focus on outcomes and the achievement of competencies - what an educator must know and be able to do - is at the heart of the UVEI approach.
Teacher Internship Program: At UVEI, adult college graduates become certified teachers through an intensive, 10-month internship program. Each UVEI teacher intern enters with a strong academic background and career and life experiences to share with students.
Principal Internship Program: The goal of UVEI's principal program is to attract into the profession individuals with maturity, a strong academic background, breadth of experience, leadership potential, and a commitment to a transformative model of leading for learning.
Masters Degree Programs: UVEI offers a Masters in Teacher (MAT) and a Masters in Education with a Concentration in School Leadership (MEd). Credit for successfully-achieved UVEI competencies are applied to a candidates' masters degree.
