Established as the lifestyle and entertainment weekly in Vancouver for over 43 years, the Georgia Straight newspaper is an integral part of the active urban West Coast lifestyle.
The Georgia Straight newspaper is published every Thursday by Vancouver Free Press Publishing Corp. Copies are distributed free every week throughout Vancouver, Burnaby, North and West Vancouver, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Langley, Cloverdale, Surrey, Richmond, Ladner, White Rock, Delta, Squamish, and Whistler/Blackcomb.
Ever since its inception, the Georgia Straight has tried to raise awareness about issues that matter. Georgia Straight writers travelled on the first Greenpeace voyage to Amchitka Island off the coast of Alaska. We published pieces by B.C.'s environmental pioneers, including Paul Watson and Ben Metcalfe in the 1960s and 1970s. In recent years, Ben Parfitt, Bob Hunter, Roberta Staley, Mitchell Anderson, Andrew Findlay, and Matthew Burrows, among others, have written cover stories on some the hottest issues of our times.
