TED is a non-profit initiative devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It began in 1984 as an annual conference where some of the world's leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. It broadly stood for the subject areas Technology, Entertainment and Design -- hence TED -- but TED's reach and its scope have become ever broader since then. TEDTalks cover science, arts, politics, global issues, architecture, music and much more.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to follow some regulations.)
For the first time ever, a TEDx conference will be held at the recently launched Media City & in Salford Quays.
