St. John’s Hospital is a regional medical center that offers a comprehensive array of tertiary healthcare services to a population base of 1.5 million central and southern Illinois residents.
St. John’s is the flagship hospital of Hospital Sisters Health System, a healthcare ministry with 13 hospitals and a multi-specialty medical group in Illinois and Wisconsin.
St. John’s Hospital is committed to providing high quality and cost efficient health care. In 2008, The Leapfrog Group recognized St. John’s as one of only a dozen hospitals in the nation to earn the “Highest Value Hospital” designation. This survey of over 1200 hospitals evaluates and identifies those providing excellent quality.
Prairie Heart Institute at St. John’s Hospital is a national leader in cardiovascular care. In 2008, a report from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) showed Prairie Heart Institute had the best survival rate for heart attack patients in Illinois, and tied for the 12th best survival rate in the U.S.
St. John’s Children’s Hospital is accredited by the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI) and is the region’s only Pediatric Critical Care Center. The Children’s Hospital is home to the area’s only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and has dedicated air and ground transportation support.
St. John’s is designated as a Level I Trauma Center on a yearly rotating basis, has its own School of Nursing and serves as a teaching hospital for the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. St. John’s is also home to the Cancer Institute, Carol Jo Vecchie Women Services/Birth Center, Regional Wound Care Center, AthletiCare Sports Medicine, Sleep Center and Center for Living.
