The Sigma International Leadership Academy was created in 2007 as an initiative to further promote leadership development amongst members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and the communities it serves. We believe the roles of leaders have changed dramatically over the last 50 years. Leaders must become capable of implementing instructional, organizational and cultural change. Leaders must be equipped to adapt to communication changes in a web 2.0 and social networking environment, environmental and global changes as evidenced by the need for energy independence and global communications and economics.
The Sigma Academy is a direct response to the leadership needs of our various markets. The mission of the SILA is to provide a practical framework that enhances individuals’ capacity to think and to engage in critical dialogue at higher levels and to affect personal, organizational and environmental mandates to meet the diverse societal demands facing today’s leaders.
