Product Overview

Founded in 1998, the Centre for Operations Excellence (COE) is an internationally recognized operations research (OR) centre based in the Operations and Logistics division of the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia.

We are dedicated to providing value to business and academia through projects with industry and research on applied OR methods. We have published many research articles and completed over 100 industry projects with major corporations in nearly every business sector. Some of these projects have been featured in the national media and have won best practice awards at OR conferences.

We also administer the UBC Master of Management in Operations Research (MM in OR), a unique master's program that provides students with an advanced education in OR and the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in a professional business environment.

Vision: To be a world-class academic centre that enhances the teaching, research and practice of operations research and operations management.

Mission: Partnering with organizations in the private and public sectors, the COE will initiate and manage applied projects that will:

I highly recommend the Master of Management provided by the COE. The unique set up allowing students to perform an industrial project supported by a team of experts, provides each student with all the tools and challenges he needs to learn, grow and gain confidence.

1) COE has a very nice balance of technical classes (simulation, optimization etc.), management classes (e.g. consulting practice) and an industry project towards the end of the program. Students not only learn the theoretical part but also gain hands-on workshop trainings. 2) It offers tons of flexibility/possibility in terms of future careers. Students can be financial engineers, health care advisors, consultants, business/supply chain analysts, mathematical modellers and many other positions
