Plastic Works was founded about 1970 by Gary Strutin, a physicist at Bell Laboratories, who fabricated with acrylic as a hobby in Mamaroneck, New York. He turned his hobby into a successful business, established it in New Rochelle at Cedar Street close to I-95, and built a strong brand in the New York City area for Lucite® fabrication, acrylic retail and discount sheet plastic sales, and cut-to-size supply to contractors and retail customers. He painted his building pink and purple and its clear visibility from I-95 made it a landmark.
Plastic Works moved to its present location on 26 Garden Street in 1990 and the business focused on a narrow selection of retail and in-house manufactured goods, while specializing in custom fabrication for the tri-state area.
Today, Plastic Works benefits from a highly recognized brand and customer loyalty. Many customers mention their memories of our business in the “pink & purple” building. The strength of the brand is reflected in one customer’s testimonial upon visiting the store and seeing a coffee table design that was familiar… “My father bought one of these when I was a child, and it still looks beautiful today!” We believe that our products are works of art and are heirlooms for generations to come.
