The Peace Palace Library has been collecting books and materials in the field of international law since 1913.
The Peace Palace Library owns the world famous Grotius Collection, the collection of Hugo Grotius [1583-1645], founder of a systematic modern doctrine of international law.
The Peace Palace library is part of the Carnegie Foundation, the organisation which is responsible for the maintenance of the historical building of the Peace Palace in the Hague. The library has a staff of 25: one library director, 8 reference librarians; 4 cataloguing staff; 3 reading room staff; 4 webteam members; 2 acquisition staff and 5 staff working in the stacks.
