LEADING THE WAY TO SUSTAINABLE HEALTH CARE
Since its inception in 1924, the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) has influenced and helped shape health care policy in Ontario, leading the way through changes, innovations, challenges and opportunities.
In response to the challenges facing the health care system, the OHA created several entities, which evolved into independent organizations. The first was Blue Cross in the 1940s. In the early 1970s, the OHA created the Hospital Purchasing Program, allowing hospitals to save money through group purchasing power. Hospital Insurance Reciprocal of Canada (HIROC) was founded in the 1980s to provide health care organizations with stable, practical liability insurance.
Today, representing 154 public hospitals, the OHA assumes a leadership role in safeguarding patients and offering its member organizations countless benefits, from system leadership to operational services to professional development.
