NYSO was founded in 1991 and has grown to be a premier musical organization serving 275 young musicians ages 8 to 18 in 40 towns north of Boston. Comprised of four orchestras, a wind ensemble, NYSO chorale, three flute choirs, one clarinet choir, and an array of small chamber ensembles. Members are drawn from 40 communities in Massachusetts and several in southern New Hampshire and Maine. Additionally, NYSO sponsors the Lawrence Strings group program and ensemble serving inner city students in Lawrence, MA.
