The Netherlands National Commission for UNESCO is the focal point in the Netherlands for UNESCO-related policies and activities.
The Commission is an independent civil society organisation which supports UNESCO’s work in the building of peace, the eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, the sciences, culture, and communication.
The Commission functions as an intermediary between the Dutch government, professional organisations, scientific experts, civil society, the media and the general public.
Currently, activities are grouped around the following major themes:
• Water in global change processes;
• Open Access and Permanent Access;
• Open Educational Resources as an instrument to ‘Education for All’;
• Culture, education and media in (post-)conflict and post-disaster areas;
• Monitoring the implementation of UNESCO’s conventions in the domain of culture;
• UNESCO Associated Schools project.
