Mifos Initiative

The Mifos Initiative promotes development and social entrepreneurship by equipping microfinance institutions with the tools to grow and better serve the needs of their clients. Using an award-winning open source platform, Mifos is fulfilling the vision of “3 Billion Maries ,” enabling women across the globe to create a better life for themselves and their families through access to financial services. Part of Grameen Foundation’s Seattle-based Technology center, Mifos leverages a modern framework of open source components like Spring, MySQL,, and Pentaho to provide microfinance institutions the tools needed for continued success. This success is realized through two distinct offerings of the Mifos platform : Mifos Cloud and Mifos Community Edition. Mifos Cloud is a hosted version delivered in the Amazon EC2 Cloud as a subscription service. Mifos Community Edition is freely available to download and is supported by a global community of microfinance practitioners, local technology companies, and independent contributors and volunteers seeking to implement and extend the technology platform.
