Koinonia (pronounced coin-o-nee-yah) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides residential, vocational and career services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) throughout Cuyahoga County, Ohio. We are the largest provider of IDD services in the county, with over 400 participants and employing 500 staff members.
When Koinonia Homes, Inc. first opened its doors in 1974 to eight women at Leans House, supporters believed that with guidance and assistance, individuals with IDD could participate in everyday community life and be contributing citizens in a meaningful way. Since then, Koinonia has grown exponentially increasing the types of services provided and the number of people served. In 2006, Koinonia opened its Adult Day Support and Vocational and Career Center known as Koinonia Enterprises, where day programming needs are met and employment skills are taught.
