The International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) is a membership organisation with 101 Member Associations in 90 countries. We work with our midwifery associations and with midwives around the world to secure women’s right and access to midwifery care before, during and after childbirth. We work alongside UN agencies and other partners to help reduce the numbers of mothers and babies who die in and around childbirth.
Vision
ICM envisions a world where every childbearing woman has access to a midwife's care for herself and her newborn.
Mission
To strengthen member associations and to advance the profession of midwifery globally by promoting autonomous midwives as the most appropriate caregivers for childbearing women and in keeping birth normal, in order to enhance the reproductive health of women, and the health of their newborn and their families.
Congress
Our 29th ICM Congress is a timely opportunity for the midwives of the world to gather, share a dynamic scientific program, and learn first hand about the challenges facing midwives across the world as we work together to tackle Millenium Development Goal 5. www.midwives2011.org
International Day of the Midwife (IDM)
Midwives around the world celebrate the International Day of the Midwife each year on the 5th of May. An information pack and news release for IDM 2011 are now available on our site:
