We started as a small civil engineering company answering the call for airfields and emergency housing during World War II.
Our origin underscores the tradition of service and commitment that has run through our history to the present day. After the War, we were integral in the rebuilding efforts and continued to expand acquiring subsidiary companies that specialised in various areas of construction that the recovering economy required. Through 70 years of successful trading we have remained true to our vision of providing our Clients with first class solutions and a quality second to none. We pioneered the use of ready-mixed concrete in Northern Ireland forming the Readyuse Concrete Company in 1954.
In 1978 we were acquired by CRH plc, now our ultimate parent company, which gave us the security and challenge of becoming part of a market leading global enterprise and provides a firm foundation for the onward development of the Company into new and emerging markets.
In 1999 as part of the a group re-structuring, the businesses of Ready Use and Farrans, amongst others, were transferred to Northstone (NI) Limited.
There are now three trading divisions of Northstone:
Farrans – construction and civil engineering;
Cubis – manufacturing and supply of pre-formed chamber units; and
Materials – materials supply and road surfacing.
