Architecture & Urban Design
We been involved with a range of projects: arts buildings; community centres; public and private housing; mixed use; regeneration; sports facilities. Our architecture is design-led, but also people-led. We like our projects to evolve through a collaborative approach.
As a practice we have extensive experience of working with listed buildings and buildings of historic interest which has involved repair, restoration and contemporary new additions. An involvement in urban developments since the mid 90s has given experience on pioneering schemes where we have developed ideas of a sense of place. More recent work has focused on regeneration projects and has had a greater emphasis on feasibility studies and masterplanning.
We have developed a link between art and architecture – artists, architects and urbanists work closely together on our projects. This participative approach brings about an alternative perspective so that our architects think beyond the physical constraints of a building or space. Artists challenge ideas and work from a different agenda helping us achieve a sense of place. They might challenge light, colour, shape or form. Designs might evolve based on the history or culture of a building or site. Artists reveal things that architects don’t always see.
