The Brandywine Health Foundation formed in May 2001 and in just ten years the foundation has made over $9 million in grants, contributions and scholarships – all targeted to the toughest health problems in the greater Coatesville area. The focus of these grants has been primarily on strengthening the safety net of healthcare providers in the area serving those with little or no health insurance.
Major Accomplishments: Bringing ChesPenn Health Services to Coatesville, the only Federally Qualified Health Center in Chester County. Building a permanent medical home for ChesPenn Health Services, Chester County Community Dental, Child Guidance Resource Centers and Human Services Inc. at the Brandywine Center, 744 East Lincoln Highway in Coatesville (also has 24 units of affordable senior housing). This $13 million, four-story Center, represents the first major construction in the heart of Coatesville in over thirty years; Visit www.brandywinecenter.org! Launching the Coatesville Youth Initiative: a coordinated four-pronged approach to help young people prepare for a productive adulthood by: Helping youth get to high school graduation with a plan; Developing mentoring relationships with adults; Strengthening the network of out-of-school time programming. Establishing a Juvenile Justice Collaborative to divert young people at risk of becoming engaged in the juvenile justice system, and helping those already in the system to successfully reintegrate into school and community.
