What Barnes-Jewish Hospital employees are saying...
-
I began employment with Barnes-Jewish Hospital in 2009 as a Human Resources Professional of 30 years. My career progression seemingly had reached a plateau with my prior employer. I made the decision to reposition myself and search for an organization that would embrace my experience; one that faithfully supported continued growth, development and career mobility. I needed an employer that recognized and celebrated the value of human potential. I needed an employer that would link employee diversity and inclusion to the success of its business and the support of the community.
From the first day, I experienced involvement and exposure that positioned me strategically, opening developmental portals for personal success, revealing a promotional opportunity I’d never considered. I’m enjoying a new career as a Manager in Corporate Compliance. My transition provided new value and benefit for the company with which I am proud to be associated.

When I was considering going to nursing school in 2003, I applied to work as a secretary at Barnes-Jewish Hospital because I thought it would be a good foundation for a career in healthcare. It was - just not how I expected! I decided that nursing was not for me, but I wanted to continue working at BJH because I enjoyed the field. I have been fortunate to work with great managers and directors who have challenged and supported me as I finished school and advanced through three different roles in the last eight years. A leadership team like that is one of the greatest assets any employee can have.
I don't really have a "typical" day here in Perioperative Services. I might be filming a video, leading a PI team, designing shirts - whatever they send my way. I love being able to bring some creativity into clinical work. Most patients will never see or hear of me, but I feel like I'm still responsible for the care they receive because my work makes me part of that team

"I returned to BJH as a Manager and started my journey beginning with 1 Critical Care Area, and then at one point was managing 4 of them! The growth opportunities are endless. From working on Lean Projects to facilitating Lean Projects...from renovating units, to moving units...watching others grow from students to staff to future leaders of Barnes-Jewish Hospital. I completed my Master's Degree utilizing the wonderful tuition reimbursement program, and became Board Certified in my Nursing Specialty.
A very enjoyable part of my job is making sure all my staff have absolutely everything they need to provide excellent care - the resources are endless. At the end of the day I can truly say I've helped to make a difference in someone's life, whether it be one of my awesome staff members, a family member, or a patient. I'm very proud working for Barnes-Jewish Hospital. My future remains very bright and full of opportunities for personal and professional growth."
